Nicky and Ray Ferguson moved into their new home just a few weeks ago, but they already feel very much at home. The couple are absolutely delighted with it; Nicky describes it as “fresh, cool, and exciting.”
It’s easy to understand their excitement. This home is simply superb – spacious, open, and modern. Ray is particularly pleased with the finish achieved by Mark Davidge and his talented team at Design Builders Wellington. “Bang-on,” says Ray with a smile, although he does admit to a little bit of micro-managing along the way.
An incredible journey
Reflecting on the journey from initial concept to finished house, Ray and Nicky reckon they were on site almost every day. Mark was pleased to see the owners take a keen interest in the build. They’ve lived and breathed it. As Nicky says, “This house is us.”

A home full of highlights
The results speak for themselves, and there are plenty of exciting original features. Mark Davidge points out the cedar-clad outdoor area as a particular highlight, and one of the best spaces he has ever built. Clearly, this beautiful home is also a career highlight for him.
Ray loves the open-plan living area, and cranking up the fire on a cold night. For Nicky it’s the ensuite bathroom that adds a level of luxury. Even the scullery is extraordinary, as it offers views of magnificent sunrises over the beautiful native bush.
The project was not without its difficulties. “One of the challenges was sourcing timber, all through 2021,” says Mark. But he’s thrilled with the choices he and his clients made. He gives credit to the Fergusons for the personal touches they added.
It started with a sketch
The couple are amused by the fact that their stunning home began with a chance encounter with Mark in a bar in nearby Petone. They have proof, too: a drawing that they made, over a beer. That rough sketch is the precise point where it all began. The result is a stunning home that is loved by its proud owners.
