The site for “Pepper Tree Cottage” was chosen for its proximity to the Havelock North village, privacy with existing trees and slight elevation.
The “cottage” was to have a 1930’s look, recycled rimu doors, matai floors and work surfaces. A large living area with a farm style kitchen which opens to a snug (2nd sitting, office or sewing room) is a prominant feature of this unique home.
Cedar wooden exterior joinery complete with shutters in macrocarpa set off the solid plaster cladding. The extensive garden is designed to have no lawns, the feature being a 100 year old pepper tree and is fully irrigated to enable the owner to have peace of mind when absent visiting family and friends.
A New Zealand House of the Year finalist reflects exceptional workmanship and attention to detail with a very personal flavour.
